World famous soccer player David Beckham, who signed a multimillion-dollar contract to play for the Los Angeles Galaxy professional soccer team, was injured, it was reported on Sunday.
He suffered a potentially serious injury to his right knee while playing at home for Real Madrid in a Spanish league game against Getafe, the Los Angeles Times reported on its website.
The extent of the damage and what impact it might have on his playing in Los Angeles will not be known until after medical tests are conducted, the newspaper reported.
Beckham, 31, suffered possible ligament damage when he ran into advertising signs behind the goal.
Beckham's contract with Real Madrid ends June 30 and he is expected to join the Galaxy in July.
